02/06/19 -- 0666H03.07H (Amendment HA1 to HB 188) -- Adds Marijuana to the list of covered medicines under the PDMP bill

Amendment Number:
0666H03.07H (Amendment HA1 to HB 188)
Amendment Purpose:
Adds Marijuana to the list of covered medicines under the PDMP bill
Date of Vote:
02/06/19
My Vote:
Yes
Explanation:

Introduced by Representative Jered Taylor (Republican - District 139), this amendment adds Marijuana to the list of covered medicines subjected to monitoring by HB 188

My vote here was mostly a strategic one, as I oppose the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) that the underlying bill imposes.  However as a supporter of Medical Marijuana, I believe it is fitting to recognize it as having valid medical purposes, and as such if we absolutely must implement a PDMP it would be consistent to include Medical Marijuana in its provisions.  As a result I voted yes on this amendment, despite fully intending to vote against the bill in totality once it returns to the floor for the final vote.

This amendment failed, as it was seen by many as an attempt to kill the underlying bill by inserting provisions considered unfavorable to a particular faction of its supporters.  As such, opponents of this amendment called for a roll call vote, the results of which can be found here.
