03/11/19 -- HCS HB 399 -- Mandates health insurance policies cover treatment for developmental disabilities
HCS HB 399, introduced by Representative Chuck Basye (Republican - District 47) requires insurance companies to provide coverage for certain treatments for those with developmental disabilities. While I recognize that such coverage is of great value and importance to those that need it, I do not believe it is acceptable for government to mandate a private business provide a particular service to its customers. I opposed similar mandates within the Federal Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), and I believe consistency requires me to oppose similar mandates here. While I commend the bill sponsor for his compassion for those in need, this is not the proper way to accomplish that goal.
