Bill Number:
HCS HB 959
Bill Purpose:
Modifies provisions of the Motor Vehicle Franchise Practices Act
Date of Vote:

My Vote:
Yes
Explanation:

HCS HB 959, introduced by Representative Dean Plocher (Republican - District 89) modifies provisions related to the Motor Vehicle Franchise Act.  Specifically, it deals with what kinds of mandates franchisors and manufacturers can put on dealers regarding signage and related alterations or improvements to facilities.

I'm not inclined to approve of the State regulating private contracts at the statutory level like this, but looking over the bill it doesn't appear to change the existing regulations in an objectionable way.  In addition, the language was negotiated between dealer and franchisor groups such that both sides were apparently pleased with the changes.  So while I don't really like the content of the bill specifically, if its a minor improvement from the status quo I won't object to the effort.
